Oregon gets salmon season.

There is plenty to like about Wednesday’s news from federal regulators, who announced the biggest commercial salmon season off Oregon’s coast in four years.

It means a fleet battered by three years of nearly complete closures and 2010’s mediocre season could haul in three times as many salmon as trollers caught last year. It means consumers who have had to settle for fish caught near the Columbia River or in Alaska can look forward to fresher, higher quality Chinook salmon in the marketplace, as early as next week.
